Check this first

  1. Check compatibility. Rachio works with 24 V AC solenoid valves; battery/DC systems, 2-wire systems and most commercial systems aren’t compatible (Rachio).
  2. Test every zone first with the old controller and fix any problems before you swap (Rachio).
  3. Photograph the old wiring. You’ll match each wire to the new terminals from that photo (Rachio).
  4. Mount it. Mark the screws with the template; in drywall, drill 3/16 in. holes and tap in the anchors. Outdoor or hard-wired installs need an enclosure (Rachio, Rachio).
  5. Move the wires. Insert zone and common wires per your photo, pushing in on the terminal. The 24VAC and ground wires aren’t needed (Rachio).
  6. Connect in the app. Add the controller, join Wi-Fi, then set up zones and a schedule (Rachio).
