Smart water monitors for sprinkler leaks: Flume vs Moen Flo vs Phyn

How they differ

  1. Easiest install: Flume straps on with no pipe cutting and self-installs in about 10 minutes; Flume says it fits 95% of homes (Flume).
  2. Want automatic shutoff? Moen Flo detects leaks, alerts you in the app and can shut the water off (Moen). Phyn Plus can also turn the water off automatically (Phyn).
  3. Plan the install. Phyn installs on the main line right after the meter, needs Wi-Fi and an outlet within 12 ft, and recommends a licensed plumber because the line is cut (Phyn).
  4. Covering the sprinklers? Phyn monitors irrigation only if it’s installed before the irrigation line branches off (Phyn).
  5. Check your rebate first. Round Rock pays 50% up to $300 and names Flo by Moen, Flume 2 and Phyn Plus (Round Rock). Riverside offers up to $175 (RPU). IRWD offers $100 but does not permit meter-attached devices, so a meter-mounted monitor won’t qualify there (IRWD).
