Sprinkler repair

Upgrade spray heads to rotary nozzles

Rotary nozzles fit many existing spray bodies and apply water more slowly. Hunter says its Standard MP Rotator offers up to 30% water savings over traditional spray nozzles.

  1. Convert the whole zone. Hunter says to replace all sprinklers on a zone and adjust the run time: the precipitation rate is much lower than sprays, so run times are similar to stream rotor zones (Hunter).
  2. Match the radius. Standard MP Rotators cover 8–35 ft depending on model (Hunter); Rain Bird R-VAN18 covers 13–18 ft and fits 1804/1806/1812 spray bodies (Rain Bird).
  3. Set the arc. Point the left edge indicator (flat side) at the left edge of the area. With the zone running, turn the arc ring clockwise for more, counter-clockwise for less (Hunter).
  4. Set the distance. The radius screw cuts throw by up to 25% (clockwise to shorten) (Hunter).
  5. Watch the pressure. Hunter says pressure consistently above 55 PSI shortens nozzle life and reduces uniformity (Hunter).
